TIMESHARE A NEW CS36 MERLIN ON THE WEST COAST

We have just added a second boat to our fleet of two. Now, a recreational sailor has a choice of either a CS 30 auxiliary powered sailboat or a new CS 36 with an aft cabin. The CS36 is presently being finished off (click here for picture) and will not arrive into Vancouver until the Fall of 2000. The plans for the yacht are to have timeshare owners use it for more than a week at a time. Therefore, there will be periods when this boat will be either up the coast or down the coast and others may wish to fly or drive to the boat to take in some passagemaking or cruise in harbours or inlets that have not been part of their immediate cruising grounds.

How does timeshare work with the CS36 Merlin

We will offer two shares of a possible four shares. That is to say, two shares are spoken for at this time. Each share will entitle a person (or group of persons) to a week a month on the boat. With only four persons or groups, the weeks can be grouped or separated as they wish. Normally, a timeshare owner will receive the same week each month for a minimum of 12 months. This is the minimum timeshare agreement. Each person (group) will have unlimited access for their period and will find the yacht fully equipped for cruising, including furling, hot water/shower, instumentation, refrigeration, cabin heat, propane stove/oven and a 110 volt inverter. The yacht has many additional custom features. All navigation equipment and safety gear is provided. The group is responsible for consumables such as fuel, propane, water, general cleanup, and their own foul weather gear. We provide the moorage, insurance and general maintenance.

What is the annual rate for timesharing a CS 36 Merlin

We will offer this yacht fully found, on the dock, insured and maintained for $650.00 per month. A damage deposit of $1500.00 will be required for the duration of the agreement. The minimum agreement will be a year.

Are their any additional costs which may be incurred

The only other costs associated with the timeshare is incidental damage or loss of equipment. Insurance is provided for collisions and loss over $5,000. The smaller repairs to sails, cushions, dock damage and loss of articles will be at the persons expense. The general maintenance and upkeep are included with the cost of the timeshare. As you can see it is like owning your own yacht without the additional outlay for dock, insurance, maintenance and upkeep.

How do I find out if timeshare is for me or my associates

The CS36 Merlin will not arrive into Vancouver until the Fall. In the meantime, you can inquire about the success of timeshare with the one, two and three year users of the CS 30 timeshare here in Vancouver at False Creek. These individuals will be available to offer their opinion about the experiences they have garnered from their years with the program. Or check out this article in January's CS West Newletter. Timesharing is cheaper than chartering a yacht and the access to extra time during the midweek is always a possibility, because most people do not have 12 weeks off to sail yet wish to have a boat available for evenings and when time permits. Even when it is not your week to sail, if you connect with another timeshare member who is not using the yacht, a quick sail or power cruise to Granville Island may be traded off.

How do I learn more about the CS36 Merlin or the program

Call Jim Flannery at 604-987-1274 or e-mail him at jimflannery@pleasuresail.com. Jim sold these yachts while at CS Yachts in Toronto and has many references to offer as to the sailing characteristics, where these yachts sail, what experience other owners have, and where timeshare has succeeded on the West Coast. He can offer photos of the CS36 as well as all the other models built including the new CS40 now under construction. You can always cut your teeth on the CS30, which is lying in False Creek, Vancouver and then move up to the larger model. The CS 30 goes out for $450.00 monthly. Again the same terms apply to the timeshare for the smaller model.
